Takashi Murata

Takashi Murata is a Managing Director, U.S. Chief of Staff, and Head of the Office of the CEO in the Americas Division of SMBC, where he is responsible for strategic planning and governance, business development, and sustainability strategy across the division. He has more than 20 years of banking experience, with expertise in corporate finance and strategy.

Prior to his current role, Taka spent five years in Tokyo, where he served as Head of Strategy in the Corporate Planning Department and was responsible for strategic planning and business development for SMBC Group.

Previously, Taka spent a decade in New York in roles including Director in the Financial Strategy Department, managing the Americas Division’s marketing strategy, and as a Director and Relationship Manager in U.S. Corporate Banking, covering the Materials, Packaging, Engineering, and Construction sectors.

He joined SMBC in 2001 and early in his career served in the Planning Department of International Banking in Tokyo.

In 2015, he was selected by the Institute of International Finance (IIF) as a member of the IIF Future Leaders Class.

Born in Kobe, Taka earned a Bachelor of Economics degree from Kyoto University.
